The Ishan Gala Foundation is a 501c3 non-profit with a mission to be present in the lives of children fighting cancer, and their families to improve their quality of life during and after treatment. We were founded by Mayank and Sejal Gala after the loss of their 2-year-old son, Ishan, to neuroblastoma in 2009. During Ishan’s fight, they experienced and witnessed what this disease did to the entire family, and knew they needed to do something about it.
Only a few weeks after Ishan passed away, the Ishan Gala Foundation was formed and immediately began raising awareness, and funds to support cutting edge research focused on finding less toxic treatments for neuroblastoma. Eventually, they also began the Hero Grants program to provide financial support to families all across the United States.
Once the University of Virginia’s Battle Building was complete, the foundation decided to shift its mission and focus on local families throughout Virginia. With the new children’s hospital, came new treatments, research capabilities, and more families who needed help. Many of the families who are treated at UVA travel distances for their treatment and check-ups because it is their best option. However, that also means additional expenses such as gas, wear and tear on vehicles, lodging, and meals, all while trying to keep up with bills and life at home.
The Ishan Gala Foundation currently provides comfort and support to families who have been impacted by children’s cancer through fun social events, care packages, regular check-ins, inpatient deliveries, financial support, and our holiday assistance program.
Over the past 3 years, we have been supporting families at UVA Children’s Hospital with a $50,000 grant. This grant helps families keep their homes and cars, pay for necessary car repairs to make it to and from treatments, medical and travel expenses for treatment, and everyday expenses such as groceries, gas, and utilities. This grant has only a few hundred dollars left, which means 2 things:
1) This is a HUGE need for families.
2) We NEED your help to make sure we continue to provide this vital funding for these families.
By participating and registering for our annual Splash For A Cure 5K event, YOU can also make a difference in these families lives who need as much help as they can get.
